In AYPO's class on federal tax credits, we'll examine the different credits that taxpayers may qualify for, and we'll review how to calculate these. We'll define the different types of credit, and discuss how they function differently.
We'll cover how to handle the income of minors who are being claimed on a parent's tax return; who qualifies for credits based on children, and which work-related expenses are tax-deductible.
We'll also cover education-related tax breaks. Although the tuition and fees deduction has been eliminated, there are a number of other ways that those with education costs can defray their tax burden.
The last half of the course will focus primarily on the Earned Income Credit, Premium Tax Credit, and a variety of less-common credits to be familiar with.
