Tax preparers in California can fulfill their state-specific 5-hour requirement for annual continuing education needed for renewal with this course. Our discussion begins by examining the actions taken by the federal and state government in response to the public health emergency/COVID-19 pandemic, including a detailed discussion of:
- the American Rescue Plan Act, 2021;
- the CARES Act; and
- the Families First Coronavirus Response Act;
along with information on whether California does or does not conform to these federal acts and changes. We also discuss the Golden State Stimulus I and II.
After that, we cover the ongoing impact of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and the results of these tax law changes. We devote time to examining state tax credits as well as the latest updates pertaining to cannabis tax law in California. We also revisit the details on basic tax forms used in California, such as the 540, 540EZ, 540NR, and Schedule CA, those used by state tax preparers with most of their clients. This course also covers military personnel and their tax-related benefits, including the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act, The Military Family Tax Relief Act, Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax Act, and more.
A 25-question final exam will wrap up the course.
